45+ Basil Plant Stem Turning Brown. Brown as in looking slimy means too much water, not enough drainage. Most of my plants look fine (other than them tipping over because i used too small net cups and/or didn't pin them in), but some of the stems appear to be cracking and turning brown (picture below).

My basil gets brown spots on some of the leaves. These are likely symptoms of bacterial leaf spot, which occurs. Basil is less susceptible to pests and disease than some other herbs but sometimes problems can arise. Regular clipping encourages a more rounded, less leggy plant.
